Usually, most of what I write is about the children, but today I wanted to turn to you, the parent, because you carry so much of this and it so rarely gets said out loud.
I’m thinking of those long weeknights at the kitchen table, the reading you do together that never seems to get any easier, and that awful moment when you try to help, you explain it your way, and your child pulls away from you, because to them you’ve become one more person who doesn’t quite understand. You’re doing everything you possibly can, and somehow it still feels like it’s not making any difference, and that is one of the most wearing things in the world to live with.
I meet so many parents in exactly this place, worn out and quietly worried they’re letting their child down, when really there was never any way they could have known how to help with something this specific. It isn’t the sort of thing a parent is ever expected to work out on their own. And once you understand how a visual thinking mind takes things in, so much becomes possible.
That’s the whole heart of the Davis Parent Power course, and it’s why I’m part of it.
It’s six weeks of live, hands-on learning, run by Claire, Rachel and myself, where you come to really understand how your child’s visual thinking mind works, and exactly how to support it. You’ll learn to help them find calm and focus, and you’ll use clay modelling to make words something they can see and hold, so the words that used to muddle them stop being a struggle. These are tools you can start using at home from the very first session.
And the goal is so much bigger than easier reading. It’s a child who can eventually run their own learning, with the confidence and the self belief to manage on their own. And a family that finally gets to step back and simply be a family again.
One mum, who’d been through years of other programmes that led nowhere, said that from the very first session, she could tell this one was going to be different.
It runs over six Sunday afternoons, starting on the 1st of November, so there are only a few days left to come on board.

If you’ve watched your child work so hard and still feel as though they’re getting nowhere, this is the course that finally shows you how to help.
And if you’re not quite ready for that step, but you’ve got that quiet feeling that there’s more going on for your child than you can put your finger on, I’ve made a free two minute quiz that helps you make sense of what you’re seeing. Finally, some clarity.
