Just home, and something struck me on the way

I’ve just come home from the most magnificent two weeks away, and the rest was much needed and thoroughly enjoyed.

We headed up to Russell in the far north for my partner’s daughter’s wedding, which was an experience all of its own, then wound our way home by the scenic routes, through Kumeu, Whangamatā, Tauranga and Rotorua. The sculptureum at Matakana, the Treaty Grounds at Waitangi, which is a must for every New Zealander, the meals, the ice creams, and yes, the extra padding round my middle to prove how much I enjoyed them.

Here’s what struck me on the way home. I remember all of it. Not because I studied it or wrote it down, but because I lived it. I was there, in it, experiencing it with all my senses.

And that’s the whole thing, really. That’s how the brain holds onto something. Not by memorising it, but by experiencing it.

It’s exactly how the people I work with learn best. And it’s a big part of what my next workshop is about.

If you’ve ever watched someone struggle with learning and thought, I can see something isn’t right, but I don’t really understand what, this is for you.

Maybe you’ve seen the Who Knew documentary and come away thinking, that explained so much, but what do I actually do now? Or maybe you’ve picked up bits and pieces about dyslexia over the years, enough to have a hunch, but never quite enough to feel like you truly understand what’s going on, or how to help.

That in between place, knowing something’s there but not knowing what to do about it, is one of the most frustrating places to be. And it’s exactly the gap this workshop is built to close.

From Confusion to Clarity is one hour, online, on Wednesday the 18th of November at 7pm.

In that hour, you’ll come to understand what’s really happening for someone who finds learning hard, whether that shows up in reading, writing, spelling, maths or focus. And you won’t just leave understanding it. You’ll leave with practical strategies you can start using straight away, at home or in the classroom.

It’s the clarity I wish every parent and teacher had years earlier, myself included.

It’s $45, it’s live, and there’s no replay, so it’s just us together on the night.

➡ You can find all the details and book your place here: https://www.dyslexiaunpuzzled.co.nz/events/from-confusion-to-clarity-helping-learning-finally-make-sense-elftr

If you’ve been sitting in that confused, in between place for a while, come and spend an hour with me. I think you’ll leave seeing things differently.
