Founder and Specialist Facilitator at Dyslexia Unpuzzled, Hawke's Bay

For many years I watched children who had so much going for them work incredibly hard, or quietly stop trying, or find every way possible to avoid anything to do with reading and writing. Either way, they still fell behind. I cared deeply about every one of them. The trouble was that caring was never enough, because I did not actually know what to do for them.

In 2021 I picked up Ron Davis's book, The Gift of Dyslexia. I remember letting out an audible gasp as I realised how many children in every class I had ever taught had been quietly slipping through, their way of thinking never recognised, never taught to. I was stunned. And I knew right there and then that I had to do something about it. I could not let it keep happening.

That moment set me on the path I am still on today. I retrained online in the Davis℠ Method, completed eighteen months of training, and became a licensed Davis℠ Facilitator in 2022. Dyslexia Unpuzzled was born from that.

It was during that training that I finally understood myself. I am dyspraxic, with some dyslexic traits in there too, and for the first time I had a name for why I had always been so clumsy.

I would be lost without my Davis℠ tools now. I use them every single day. I work one to one, in person, with people of all ages here in Hawke's Bay, and I run workshops online. The Davis℠ Method works with the way a visual thinker's brain actually works, rather than against it.

What I see is not slow, painful progress. It is real, lasting change.
