Davis℠ Mastery for Maths

For adults, teens and older children

Struggling with maths?

Throughout their entire lives, some individuals carry the belief that they are simply not good at mathematics. Difficulties with math are sometimes referred to as dyscalculia, involving challenges in certain aspects of math, or acalculia, where arithmetic cannot be performed at all. These difficulties often coexist with symptoms of dyslexia and ADHD.

Conventional teaching methods sometimes fail to help learners grasp the fundamental mathematical concepts underlying equations. Consequently, learners may resort to memorization without true comprehension in order to cope with math. This approach inevitably leads to issues when attempting more advanced mathematical functions, as the essential understanding is lacking. However, once learners master the foundational concepts necessary to comprehend all mathematics, the process of learning math becomes easy!

Davis™ Maths Mastery Programme

The Davis™ approach tackles the underlying problems that lead some individuals to struggle with conventional teaching methods for understanding mathematics. Visual-spatial thinkers, in particular, may find themselves perplexed by the language and symbols used to describe mathematical functions. However, in the Davis™ Maths Mastery Programme, clients excel by capitalising on their strengths and employing visual and tactile techniques for comprehension.

The duration of the program typically spans around 8 days, tailored to individual requirements. It equips individuals with a profound understanding of the logical concepts that form the foundation of all mathematics, allowing them to master crucial arithmetic functions, including:

  • counting

  • understanding numeral symbols

  • perceiving place value

  • performing arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

  • comprehending fractions and decimals

  • If needed, the programme can also cover telling time, using a calendar and/or using money

Step Two: 30-Hour Intensive Programme

Our Process: Tailored Support Every Step of the Way

Before beginning a Davis℠ Mastery for Maths programme, we start with an Initial Consultation to pinpoint your specific learning challenges and define clear, actionable goals. This ensures the program is tailored to your unique needs.

The Davis℠ Mastery for Maths Programme is run intensively over approximately 10 full days. If you do another Davis℠ programme first, Maths Mastery can be completed in up to five days. All materials needed for the programme are provided by your facilitator.

This program is ideal for anyone who finds math overwhelming. With clay and hands-on learning techniques, your Specialist Facilitator will guide you through a 1:1, fast-track program that simplifies math step by step. Instead of relying on memorisation, Davis℠ Mastery for Maths Programme makes math meaningful and memorable.

A family member or other support person must join on the afternoon of the final day to complete a short training to be able to help the client complete the follow-up work of the programme.

Step Three: Post-Programme Follow-Up

After the completion of the programme, the client will have tools they can use for mathematical thinking as well as some new tools for learning in general. We offer three follow-up visits to explore how the client has been using their tools, any questions they have or challenges they have faced and to encourage the client in their mathematical learning journey.

What Mum of a 12 year old boy says:

Before working with Nikki, my son was struggling is all sorts of areas but specifically the basic maths operations: adding and subtraction, we didn’t even really look at multiplication as that was just too tough for him. He was struggling with spelling and he could remember the things he learned. He was struggling to read and couldn’t write confidently. It was not a fun time for him at school. His confidence was knocked because he didn’t feel like was keeping up with everyone else, which he wasn’t.

When he hit intermediate and he couldn’t keep up, he was put into another classroom for reading etc. It was pretty tough on him, knocked his confidence and was no longer happy to go to school. After working with Nikki, ,his confidence was boosted quickly. He was much happier to go to school and there was just this realisation for him that there was nothing wrong with him, but it was the way he was being taught. (He felt he had the wrong teacher). For a 12 year old boy to come to that conclusion after just a session with me was really great. I knew immediately we had made the right decision. He was much more confident to be able to go to school. He is much more confident with addition and subtraction and he has been working on multiplication with me and is getting through that.

He can do his alphabet now both backwards and forwards that he once couldn’t remember let alone write so he’s come leaps and bounds. He now will come home and pick up a book to read which he hasn’t done in such a long time prior to working with Nikki. He does it now because he enjoys it and can actually understand what he is reading at lot better now. There’s no arguments now like there used to be when I asked him to put down his phone and go and read a book.

It was a big investment for our family and for a while I was on the fence about it, listening to different opinions out there. It was tough to make that decision to go ahead with the program. However, now I have done it, I would do it 100 times over because he now has the tools to help him move ahead with his learning and his life and you can’t really put a price on that. I definitely recommend it to anybody. In the long run you are investing in your child’s or your future that you are investing in and if you can make it happen, you should just go for it! I’ve got no regrets about it whatsoever.

The benefits have far outweighed the investment and I think if we hadn’t done this we would be in a lot of trouble and impacting our lives at home. The benefits have not only impacted him but the support I have received for myself has been outstanding. I always know Nikki is just an email or phone call away. If there is anything I am unsure, or have a question about. It’s so easy just to have a chat to Nikki. Knowing that we have got that ability moving forward makes me feel a lot more confident too. He has really enjoyed the sessions with Nikki and says he has learned more in 2 sessions with her than in 2 years at school. That’s coming from a 12 year old boy!
