So... what now? (plus come find me at Tamatea today)

Quick one first. I'm at Tamatea High School this afternoon for an expo, 2.00pm to 5.00pm. If you're local, come and have a chat and see what we're all about. Pop your name in the draw while you're there and you could win a copy of The Gift of Dyslexia.

Now, the thing I actually want to talk to you about.

We've been screening the documentary 'Who Knew: Dyslexia is a Way of Thinking' since August, with a couple more still to come, and I've been thinking about something.

For so many people, that film creates this beautiful moment of "oh... THIS is what's been happening." Finally, it makes sense. The pieces fall into place.

But then there's that pause. That quiet question underneath the relief: "Okay, so... what do I actually DO with this?"

I've sat with parents after screenings who've said things like, "I see it now, but where do I even start?" or "I want to help, but I'm scared I'll get it wrong."

Teachers who whisper, "I have three kids in my class struggling right now. What's the one thing I could try tomorrow?"

And I get it. Because understanding something and knowing how to help with it are two completely different things.

Two more screenings coming up

There are two more chances to watch the documentary next week, both online:

→ 7.00pm, Wednesday 15th September

→ 4.00pm, Sunday 20th September

It's a genuinely worthwhile and informative watch, and you won't want to miss it. Rachel and Claire will be talking a bit more about what comes next at the end of the film too.

And if the film leaves you asking "so what now?"

I've put together a short follow up session. Nothing fancy. Just some simple, practical ways to support someone who's struggling with reading, writing, or maths.

I'll walk you through why some people learn differently, what the signs actually look like, and practical hands on strategies you can use straight away at home or in the classroom.

This is an hour of practical support to help you move forward with confidence, plus time for Q&A with me afterwards.

You do not need to have seen the documentary to come along. If you've been watching your child struggle and you want to know what to actually do about it, you are very welcome.

From Confusion to Clarity

→ 7.00pm, Wednesday 23rd September

→ Online via Zoom

See you at one of them, or at Tamatea this afternoon.
