Young Learners Program

For 5-7 year children

Kids struggling with reading?

Welcome to the Young Learners program. This programme provides the basic tools to successfully teach Davis methods and skills to young children aged 5-7, in an individualised home teaching or tutoring situation.

The Young learners program has been adapted from the tremendously successful Davis Dyslexia Correction® methods to teach children ages 5-7 lifelong learning skills which will prevent the development of learning challenges or problems.

The methods used in the Young learners Program enhance the learning abilities of all types of young learners. Children who are struggling to learn letters and words improve dramatically. Children with strong language skills become even better readers, spellers and writers

The Davis learning methods provide children with the conceptual skills needed to develop reading fluency and comprehension. At the heart of the Young Learners Program are techniques for focussing attention and development of visual memory for key words which compliment and enhance phonetic decoding skills - paving the way for academic success in later years.

Davis® Reading programme for Young Learners

The Davis Reading Program for Young Learners caters to children aged 5 to 7 years who are considered "at risk." This parent-coached program equips children with vital tools for learning, establishing strong foundations in language acquisition. With parents actively involved in the process, they also learn effective ways to support their children in comprehending the fundamentals of reading, writing, and spelling, empowering them for future learning endeavors.

Offered on a modified schedule, usually from 9 am to 12 pm, the program spans over a two-week period. Throughout this time, both you and your child will be guided through the utilisation of clay and the Davis Symbol Mastery techniques to:

  • Master upper- and lower-case alphabet letters

  • Techniques to catch and resolve confusions with letters caused by shape (i.e. b, d, p, q), sounds, or letter formation

  • Gain awareness and understanding of basic punctuation marks

  • Learn fun and engaging ways to master those pesky "sight words"

The Davis Reading programme for Young Learners is specifically designed to cater to children between the ages of 5 and 7 who are considered "at risk." This programme, which involves parental coaching, aims to equip children with essential skills to enhance their focus and establish strong foundations for language learning. By actively involving parents, the programme not only supports children in learning the fundamentals of reading, writing, and spelling but also educates parents on the most effective ways to assist their children in these areas throughout their educational journey.

How It Works

Step One: Contact us for a free chat

Connect on a call with us to discuss what difficulties you or your child is facing with their reading, writing or spelling and we can explore how the Davis™ Young Learners Programme could work for your needs.

Step Two: 30-Hour Intensive Davis™ Programme

The Davis™ Young Learners Programme is run intensively over approximately 10 half days days (typically 9am - 12pm) over a 2 week period with a parent present for most of that time. All materials needed for the programme are provided by the facilitator. The client brings their own food and may also wish to bring reading material or class work relating to their goals. The most important thing is to encourage the learning of each skill in a fun and playful way making learning easy for your child. Prior to doing a programme with us we do an assessment so we know how we can best tailor the programme to meet your specific needs.

A family member or other support person must join on the afternoon of the final day to complete a short training to be able to help the client complete the follow-up work of the programme.

Step Three: Post-Programme Follow-Up

After the completion of the programme, the client will have tools they can use to assist them with their reading, writing and spelling, as well as some new tools for learning in general. We offer three follow-up visits to explore how the client has been using their tools, any questions they have or challenges they have faced and to encourage the client in their learning journey.
